Learning Support Program

The mission of the MACS Learning Support Program at St. Matthew Catholic School is to identify and facilitate a successful learning environment for each student experiencing learning difficulties in the classroom. At St. Matthew, we believe that every student deserves to reach their full potential. Some students may require assistance beyond the classroom to meet that potential.

St. Matthew has two full-time Learning Support Teachers (LST) who are specially trained in working with specific learning needs. Our Learning Support Teachers strive to provide support to the student, the teacher and the parents. Their primary goal is to help ensure the success of each student who is in need of additional support, directly and indirectly.

Our Learning Support Teachers provide direct support to students in a number of ways. Team teaching and close planning and coordination with regular classroom teachers, teachers of special subjects, and counselors provide a team approach to the total child's successful learning. The LST may offer whole class instruction, whole group instruction, individual assistance within an inclusive setting, pull out for small group or individual work, and supervision of trained volunteers who are working with the LST/Title I students.

Our Learning Support Teachers also provide indirect student support by providing suggestions to parents and teachers on ways to accommodate a student's learning difficulties. Modifications, accommodations and/or interventions may be provided.
