Frequently Asked Questions

MACS stands for Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools. MACS represents nine of the Catholic Schools in the Greater Charlotte area. When you apply, you will submit your child's application and materials to MACS. Tuition is also paid to MACS. Most other details including academics, schedule, and extra-curricular activities are handled by each school respectively.

• Transitional Kindergarten (TK): Students must be age 5 on or before October 15th
• Kindergarten: Students must be age 5 on or before August 31st

Please note that we do not offer a preschool program. The following MACS schools offer a Pre-K program. Students must be age 4 on or before August 31st.

• Kindergarten = 25 (4 classes)
• 1st grade = 27 (4 classes)

• 4th grade = 30 (4 classes)
• 5th grade = 30 (4 classes)

Absolutely! All MACS schools admit students of any race, color, sex, religion, national and ethnic origin.

There is an all-school Mass every week.

Entrance into a MACS school is subject to screening. Dates and times will be scheduled by our screening agency, ABC Educational Services, upon receipt of completed application. Please do not contact them directly for scheduling. Click here to review the latest testing guidelines.

If the MACS ASEP program is full, the Morrison YMCA and LeafSpring School at Ballantyne both offer after school programs with bus transportation from St. Matthew to their locations. Please visit their websites for additional details regarding programs and costs.
